Migration Agent Requirements

The Migration Agent is rolled out to the end-user clients in scope for migration. The rollout can be done with deployment tools normally used within the company; software is delivered as an MSI Package. The administration guide provides guidance on the MSI switches for an automated and silent install.


Disk space: The Migration Agent needs 5 MB. Log files can consume 10-100 MB.


Here are software requirements:

  • Microsoft Windows 7,8,10 in either 32 bit or 64 bit configurations
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP1 or later
  • Outlook 2010/2013/2016 in either 32 bit or 64 bit configurations
  • Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)


The Migration Agent will run under the user’s credentials. The user will need the following access to use all features:

  • Access to the PST Files.
  • Ability to modify the registry under the following subkeys:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\<x>.0\Outlook\PST*
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\<x>.0\Outlook*
    • *<x> depicts the version of Microsoft Outlook being installed


The agent, by default, communicates to the migration core server over port 80. Optionally, an SSL certificate can be applied and configured and the agent can be forced to communicate over port 443. Microsoft Azure Installs require SSL / communication over port 443.
In some cases, antivirus software scanning PST files may lock PST files and prevent the software from running. In these situations the configuration may need to be modified, or an exception for scanning PST files be added for the duration of the project.

New Versions of Microsoft Outlook / Microsoft Windows

As new versions of Microsoft Office and Windows are released, Quadrotech’s goal is to provide support within 90 days of the version reaching General Availability. This is not always possible, depending on the version and amount of changes required to support the release.
